Aircel has announced a new video calling offer across its 3G circles. As per the offer, Aircel customers can now enjoy new tariffs of 1.6 paisa per second on video calls (Aircel to Aircel). Otherwise, Aircel is charging 5 paisa per second for national and local video calls. Remember, here (if you are using your operators video call services) you won't incur any data charges.
K Kadhiravan, circle business head, Aircel, Karnataka, said,"Indian market is currently going through a data revolution and is witnessing exponential upsurge in data usage and penetration. For youth, data has become the most imperative tool to communicate and stay connected 24X7. We believe that with new video call tariffs, we have catered to the rise in demand for data and will be able to strike the right chord with our customers. Video calling adds an emotional personal touch to the communication between friends and family and with 'Extra' video calling benefits exclusively for Aircel users; we aim to strengthen the community of Aircel customers to surge ahead in the data space."
Currently, you can make video calls using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) or using the services of telecom operators. If you are using VoIP services such as Skype, you could incur around 2 MB of data. Most leading operators are charging 10 paisa for 10 KB of data consumed. So if you would probably pay Rs 10.24 for 1 MB or about Rs 20 for a minute of video calling using VoiP services. But many other operators like Aircel are charging 1 paisa per 10 KB so you would probably end up paying much higher if you use VoIP services for video calls to mobile phone numbers in India.
Vodafone currently offering video calls at Rs 3 per minute (home outgoing as well as in incoming roaming) and Rs 4 per minute in Roaming outgoing. RCom is offering video calls at 5 paisa per second. Airtel has a video calling pack which costs Rs 66 and offers 75 minutes of video calls; otherwise you can make video calls at 5 paisa per second rate.
