Microsoft has been rumored to be working on a Windows Phone 8 GDR3 intermediate update for existing devices. The Mobile Indian had reported about Microsoft's plan to introduce the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update mostly to enable 1920 x 1080 pixel native resolution support for smartphones. Vietnamese forum WindowsPhoneViet posted images of the Lumia 520 smartphone running Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update labeled as Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer.
Microsoft has big plans to make the Windows Phone 8 platform available on full 1080p HD resolution supporting large screen tablets. Nokia is reportedly planning to release the Lumia 1520 with a 6 inch display on October 22. As of now, there is no clarity on whether the Lumia 1520 will run Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer update or not.
Interesting bit is that one of the screenshots of the Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer update belongs to India region (RM-914_im_India_443). The leaked screenshot of the Lumia 520 with the Lumia Bittersweet Shimmer update hints that all Lumia devices will get the GDR3 update before the end of this year.
