A major design flaw in Sony Xperia Z has been found which makes it prone to damage form water and moisture. Ironically, a major USP of the phone is its water proof feature.
According to several reports and complaints made by users on the official Sony Forum, the Xperia Z is suffering from loose back glass plates. The back plates of the devices are coming off on one side making this water proof smartphone prone to damages from water.
To make things worst, Sony is even turning down requests and complaints of the users who have been visiting the service centers for the same issue. An Xperia Z user, identified as Lamleial, said, "I have the same problem, I was told by Sony that the plate lifting is physical damage and voids the warranty. I'm still arguing with them about it. It definitely affects the water resistance, I was unaware of the lift until water had done permanent damage to my phone. Sony is also stating that any water damage voids the warranty, even if the reason there was water damage in the first place is due to the failure of the back plate."
As told by the users, the back plates get lifted due to heat generated when playing graphic intensive games and likewise tasks, especially in countries with warmer climate. When the device heats up, it is causing the glue to melt that is holding the glass back plate in place causing it to lift from one side rendering the phone prone to damage.
While many might suggest different reasons, the flaw is specifically due to the manufacturing process adopted in the making of the Sony device.
While Sony is turning down customers users who have the back plates lifted, it would be a good idea for all the users to closely examine their Xperia Z devices and if there is some disparity found out in both the sides, they should get their device checked at the nearest service center so that damage could be prevented.
