Sony Mobile is expected to announce its first true phablet (smartphone-tablet hybrid), dubbed as Xperia Z Ultra, very soon. The XDA-Developers forum had a post about screenshots of an app taken on Xperia Z Ultra. As per the post, the Xperia Z Ultra smartphone will feature a 6.44-inch touchscreen display and house a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mobile processor.
Sony Mobile will soon join the phablet game with the Xperia family device codenamed Togari. The Sony Mobile's Xperia Togari L4 will be branded as the Xperia Z Ultra and is set to launch for Europe region on July 4 next month.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra will feature a 6.44-inch touchscreen display with full 1080p HD resolution. This display has been manufactured in a way that it will support input even from a finger or stylus. It boasts of the "Triluminos with X-Reality for Mobile” display.
The screenshots show that the Xperia Z Ultra will run the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 mobile processor with Adreno 330 graphics chip. Sony has added 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, and memory card slot. The phablet would have an 8 megapixel Exmor RS sensor based camera at the back. In the front, it would have a 2.2 megapixel camera. The Xperia Z Ultra is expected to measure 6.5 mm thin and will weigh around 212 grams.
Sony Mobile will introduce the Xperia Z Ultra with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update with the Timescape UI and we hope it will be upgradable to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean MR2 update.
As of now, there are no details on whether special stylus centric apps are included in the Xperia Z Ultra or whether the stylus will be bundled with the device. We expect official details to be shared on July 4.
