Sony unveils ultra slim 6.4 inch Xperia Z Ultra

Sony Mobile has announced its largest smartphone till date, called Xperia Z Ultra which arguably is also the largest smartphone now. The super slim, waterproof phone has a 6.4 inch display with Full HD TRILUMINOS technology which provides crisper images thanks to backlighting in three colours (RGB) instead of just white in other displays.

The display also uses Sony's latest X-Reality for mobile picture engine for better viewing experience, the touch also works pen, pencil, stylus or fingers. The phone is powered by latest 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor. Even with such large display and a powerful hardware the phone is just 6.5mm thick and weighs 212 grams which is heavier than most phone but is still only marginally so despite getting 60 percent bigger display than a 5 inch phone.

The phone will be available in black, white or purple colour finishes. The design of the phone is inspired by the Xperia Z smartphone and tablets and gets the same glass finish on both the ends but there is difference in actual construction of the phone which uses aluminum chassis instead of a plastic one in Xperia Z.

Xperia Z Ultra is also water and dust proof for which it has got IP55 and IP58 certification which is higher than even Xperia Z. It even allows one to shoot Full HD videos underwater. Its 8 megapixel camera at the back features "Exmor RS for mobile", HDR for both photos and film, and Superior Auto mode automatically activates HDR and noise reduction when needed,

Son has also used all its audio know how in the phone and offers Sony's ClearAudio+ mode and Xloud loudness enhancement. You also get Walkman application on the phone. Sony is also offering millions of songs and videos access on this phone like on other Sony phone launched recently.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra comes with handwriting recognition which is compatible with any pencil and selected stylus or pen (capacitive stylus or metal pen with tip diameter over 1mm).

You can even write notes or sketches during calls so you'll always be ready capture your ideas as they happen. Sony has not increased the size of the applications icons with the display and therefore almost all the apps that you will have will be displayed on a single home screen, which means no scrolling.

The phone supports connectivity options like NFC , LTE , Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio with RDS. Sony has announced that the Xperia Z Ultra will launch globally from Q3 2013 (July onwards) however has not made specification plans for countries clear, we expect the phone to arrive in India along with global launch but will be priced at least in close proximity to iPhone which we think it very well deserves given its specifications.
