Official Rockmelt app arrives for Android platform

Rockmelt'a official application has been launched on Android. The new Rockmelt app offers several categories for the users to choose from the topics and personalise the web browsing experience.

Though the company refrains from calling it a browser, it actually pushes personalised web content to the mobile platform for the users. The Rockmelt app for iOS platform has been already available since last year.

Rockmelt took its own sweet time to make the app for the Android platform and the company states that the app is not a mere iOS port. The Rockmelt app has been design and customised based on the latest Android platform and variety of devices.

Once the user chooses the favourite categories, the Rockmelt populates and presents the relevant content to the user in the form of a thumbnail layout. It is almost like browsing through the new Google+ layout.

The content is presented in media-rich tiles showing the images and videos wherever available. Rockmelt offers something called Elevator buttons (up and down) to jump between new and old content. The app boasts of a super smooth scrolling with endless stream effect. Users can always add their favorite websites to the layout.

Each tile will carry a reaction button that will let others know how you felt about that particular page or website. Of course one can search for more specific content and then share it with friends over the different social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and others.

In a way, Rockmelt is almost like the social reader similar to the Flipboard and the likes. The new Rockmelt app is available from the Google Play store for the devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update or higher.
