The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), a non-profit organisation in India, will support 10 companies to develop mobile applications that would help ensure safety of females.
These ten companies are the winners of NASSCOM organized All India App Fame Contest 2013, reported Apps -for-womens-safety.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Live Mint. Under this contest, individual application developers and organizations were to develop applications offering a mobile tool for women safely and 10 of the entries have made it to the finals based on their utility and features they offer.
"The basic utility behind the apps was to help women in a distressed situation and work as an Emergency response and crises communication tool," NASSCOM president Som Mittal said announcing the winners.
According to the report, the applications which have been selected include GoSuraksheit from Hughes Systique. It allows one to seek help from their contacts at any time in distress. Sentinel, a GPS -based mobile security application from MindHelix Technosol, has been selected which would allow one to send exact location (GPS coordinates) of the person in distress. Also Nirbhaya from SmartCloud Infotech has been selected by NASSCOM as it can send distress messages with location updates to pre-defined contacts or group and can also leverage social media including Facebook for bringing in help.
Other application which were selected include SafeBridge, FightBack, One Touch SOS, inE, iFollow, SafeTrac and PanicGuard.
