Week 34 in review: Note 4 camera, iPhone 6, Sharp Aquos Crystal

The Week In Review is our series meant to recap all the major announcements of the week, which you might have missed. Week 34 was mainly about the Apple and Samsung, and their upcoming smartphones and phablet.

There are also interesting and fresh pieces of news such as the ridiculously cool looking Sharp Aquos Crystal and the leaked Galaxy Mega 2 specs. Sony also made a splash with its Xperia M2 Aqua, which boasts IP68 certification.

We have more images of the upcoming iPhone 6 today, and for the first time we have an idea what the fully assembled phone might look like. We have seen plenty of images of the rear shell and the front panel of the phone before but this is the...

The information comes from a document detailing the RAM chip. While iOS devices generally have done well in the multitasking department despite lagging far behind Android's top devices (which are said to reach 4GB this year) Apple has upgraded their RAM from generation to generation...

The abovementioned sensor model is the same as that of the Korea-only Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A. The unit is capable of capturing 4K UHD video at 30 fps. The device’s front-facing camera will be a 3.7MP unit, capable of capturing images and video in WQHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). It represents a noticeable...

The new Exynos chipset moves to 64-bit processing with four Cortex-A57 cores and four Cortex-A53. Those are the successors to the 32-bit A15 and A7 respectively but implement the ARMv8-A instructions set (same as Apple's Cyclone cores). The Snapdragon 805 uses 32-bit Krait 450 cores...

The Sharp Aquos Crystal opts for a 5" 720p panel, Snapdragon 400 with a quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8 gigs of storage and a 2,040mAh battery. It does pack a Harmon Kardon-branded sound package with Clari-Fi and LiveStage tech (the first allowing you to recover some information...

The iPod Touch-like design of the iPhone has been seen in numerous leaks. It abandons the square edges of the iPhone 4 but keeps the all-metal body. Both the new iPhone and the Galaxy Alpha will have 4.7" screens though the Android flagship has a slight advantage in vertical bezels...

According to the leak, Toshiba and Hynix will provide the 16GB NAND flash chips. Hynix will also be responsible for a portion of the 64GB NAND chips alongside SanDisk. The largest, 128GB memory will carry Toshiba branding. This is a strong indication that Apple doesn't bet too much on selling a lot of 128GB iPhone 6 models...

A dedicated page on Samsung's official site has a sappy ad that mostly features the Galaxy Note 3 but the last few seconds of the video remind us to expect the Note 4. Samsung has also posted about the ad on Weibo announcing a contest that can net you Galaxy Note 3 (that's right, 3 not 4)...

It appears to detail the specs of the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 - a 6" 720p display, 1.5GB of RAM, expandable 16GB storage, 8MP camera with LED flash on the back and a 2.1MP snapper on the front. LTE connectivity with VoLTE support, a 2,800mAh battery, FM Radio and Android 4.4 KitKat are also listed....

The Sharp Aquos Crystal will cost $239.99 at Sprint sans contract. You'll also have the option of buying one through the carrier's Easy Pay installment scheme, shelling out $0 upfront followed by 24 monthly payments of $10. It's still unclear how much the Aquos Crystal will go for if you want to sign...

That aside the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua is virtually identical to the regular Xperia M2. It has a 4.8" qHD screen and is powered by a Snapdragon 400 chipset (quad Cortex-A7 at 1.2GHz, Adreno 305, 1GB RAM). The battery life is also very promising with a 2,300mAh battery and the available Stamina Mode...
