Nokia HERE offline Maps to get incremental updates

Nokia's HERE has launched a new pilot program in India to collect information through a crowd mapping initiative. This new crowd sourced mapping program includes a team of over 1000 geography students from participating universities across India. This initiative will help HERE to add more information to offline maps data for India.

HERE maps

HERE maps brought the vector maps and is now bringing an incremental offline maps data update feature. That means the app will now fetch new updated information for the offline maps that the user has chosen to download on the device. The interesting bit is that this new feature will download only the updated information and not the entire package. HERE's incremental offline maps update feature is being pushed to Windows Phone 8 users: Lumias running Amber update, and other WP devices running GDR2 update.

For India the pilot program will help in improving map accuracy and quality with the community map moderation system. Under this system, the HERE Team and community will have rights to make edits before the final information is packaged as an update to the HERE maps.

The quality of HERE maps for India would get better over a period of time and HERE maps offers turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation and several other features.
