Week 42 in review: Nexus 6 and 9, Android 5.0 Lollipop, iPad Air 2

Week In Review is here to recap all the major announcements, which you might have missed. The past Week 42 was quite busy for the mobile tech world. Google revealed its latest Nexus 6 smartphone by Motorola and the Nexus 9 tablet by HTC in addition to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Many manufacturers including Motorola, HTC and Sony uncovered their plans to update existing devices to the latest operating system.

Apple held its event on October 16 and revealed the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 and iOS 8.1. Oppo continues teasing its N3 smarpthone, but the surprise of the week came from Lenovo. The Chinese manufacturer is working on a smartphone called Sisley, which not only looks like the iPhone 6, but improves on its design slightly.

Without any sort of special event, Google has just announced the Motorola-made Nexus 6 smartphone running Android 5.0 Lollipop. The phone features a 6" 2560 x 1440 pixel display, which gives it a pixel density of 496ppi. The premium display is backed up by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset....

As expected, Google announced its latest tablet - the HTC-made Nexus 9. The tablet runs on Android 5.0, which has just been confirmed to be called Lollipop and packs a 9" IPS LCD with the unusual for Android aspect ratio and a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels (that's 4:3 aspect...

Along with the announcement of the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9, Google also announced that the next iteration of their mobile OS, which we so far knew under the codename Android L, will actually be called Android 5.0 Lollipop. Android Lollipop was one of the top picks of the rumor mill anyway...

The Apple iPad Air 2 is only 6.1mm, making it the thinnest tablet yet. It's also now available in Gold as well as silver. The tablet is powered by a custom Apple A8X chipset, which is a version made especially for the iPad family. The CPU is 40% faster, while the GPU is 2.5x faster than on the...

The third generation Apple iPad mini is official. It's called just "iPad mini 3," the Retina display is a given. Sorry if it took us a while to finish writing this news, we were looking for what's changed in the new tablet. And we can tell you it's not much - actually barely anything. The iPad...

Apple event featured a long portion on new software and the highlight of that was the announcement of iOS 8.1. Apple Pay is, of course, the headlining feature but there's more. Apple has changed how apps are handled – users can now check the permissions required by third-party apps and they can...

Following in the footsteps of Motorola and HTC, both of which made their plans public already, Sony has today let us know which of its devices are due to get upgraded to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The L release of Google's mobile operating system finally got named yesterday. And now we have some good...

Lenovo is working on a new Android smartphone called Sisley, which has just had its photos leaked. The company seems to have been heavily inspired by Apple when designing the Sisley, as it resembles the iPhone 6 as close as phone we've seen. According to the source of the photos, the phone...

The Oppo N3 details keep trickling and the latest piece of news comes from the company's CEO himself. In a Weibo post, Tony Chen says the 16MP sensor of the N3 will have the ample 1/2.3" size, which will result in higher quality images. He also shared a comparison image, which you can see...

Despite the Pro moniker, the MX4 Pro has almost exactly the same specs as its official twin, it's not even bigger. It has a 5.36" screen with 2,560 x 1,536 pixel resolution (a hair above QHD) and a 20.7MP Sony camera. The main difference besides the OS is the chipset – an Exynos 5430 by Samsung, replacing the MediaTek chipset....
