MediaTek announces quad-core MT8135 chip for the tablets


MediaTek has unveiled its latest quad-core system-on-chip (SoC) - MT8135 - for tablets. The new MediaTek MT8135 integrates the ARM big.LITTLE multi-processing technology and Imagination's PowerVR Series 6 Graphics chip. The MediaTek MT8135 does have the potential to deliver decent performance for the mid-range tablet segment.


MediaTek's new quad-core SoC - MT8135 packs two ARM Cortex-A7 processor cores and two ARM Cortex-A15 processor cores. These pairs of the processor cores work together with the PowerVR Series 6 graphics chip to make the phone OS run smoothly.

MediaTek has also integrated the 4-in-1 connectivity solution that combines WiFi , Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and FM Radio. All these are important features that are ideally expected from the tablets. Apart from that, the MediaTek MT8135 also supports WiFi certified Miracast standard for easy streaming of multimedia content between two supporting devices.


MediaTek has worked with the Imagination technologies to integrate the PowerVR Series 6 graphics chip to deliver five times or more boost in the graphical performance. This performance output is compared to the previous generation MediaTek chipsets. With the new Imagination PowerVR Series6 graphics, MediaTek aims to boost the high-end gaming performance, advanced browser based graphics and smoother user interface on the smartphones and tablets.


This is the first quad-core SoC out after the Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa to feature the ARM big.LITTLE processing implementation. The company has not clarified on timeline for the MediaTek MT8135 SoC based products.
